SYSTEM OF NUMBERING
All the numbered streets that run north and south begin with Number One at the line of the Santa Fe Railway (which runs east and west) and number each way north and south from this point. All streets running south from the Santa Fe tracks are to be designated with the prefix South. Those running north to be designated with no prefix; for example: Number 26 P'irst Street, south of the Santa Fe tracl<s, would be designated 26 South First, and the same number North of the Santa Fe tracks would be designated as 26 First Street (not using the prefix North).
All the named streets and avenues that run East and West begin with Number 1 at First Street and number each way. East and West, from that point, for example: 26 Barrett Avenue East of IFirst Street is designated as 2 6 Barrett Avenue (not using the prefix East), 2 6 Barrett Avenue West of (First Street would be known as 26 West Barrett Ave.
The same system is carried out at Point Richmond. The Santa Fe Rail- way traclis running North and South there, being the dividing line for all streets crossing it. The prefix West to be used on all streets running West from this point, and no prefix to be used on streets running East froni this point.
NOTE: The figures in ( ) denote the distance in block numbers where the street may be located from zero point; the letter preceding the figures denotes the direction from the zero point, for instance: Barrett n(500) de- termines this street is 5 blocks north of Santa Fe tracks, which is the zero point.
